About The Position

Satterfield and Pontikes Construction, Inc. is seeking a Traveling Senior Superintendent to lead concrete paving projects and develop field leadership. This is a field-based role involving travel between project sites rather than a permanent assignment at one site. The ideal candidate is based in Houston, Texas, though applicants from other Texas cities are welcome. The Senior Superintendent leads DOT and heavy civil concrete paving projects from mobilization through completion. The role owns pre-paving planning and readiness, oversees crews and field logistics, communicates with contractors, owners, inspectors, and clients, and helps keep projects safe, on schedule, and on specification. The position also mentors Assistant Superintendents and requires travel to sites across Texas and beyond as project needs demand, with travel of 50% or more.

Requirements

At least 10 years of DOT or heavy civil construction experience.
Strong command of field logistics and preparation for large-scale paving projects.
A track record of training, coaching, or mentoring field personnel.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, particularly in high-pressure discussions with general contractors and clients.
A steady, level-headed approach when schedules tighten or conditions change.
Ability and willingness to travel 50% or more.
Working knowledge of TxDOT or comparable DOT specifications and safety standards.

Responsibilities

Lead field operations from mobilization through completion on DOT and heavy civil concrete paving projects.
Manage pre-paving readiness, including grade and subgrade, forms and stringline, equipment staging, crew planning, material logistics, and pour sequencing.
Mentor and train Assistant Superintendents, developing their confidence, technical skills, and leadership abilities.
Communicate proactively and professionally with general contractors, owners, inspectors, and clients.
Keep projects safe, on schedule, and on specification, resolving problems as they arise.
Travel to project sites across Texas and beyond as work demands.
