About The Position

Sentara Heart Hospital, located on the campus of Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Cardiac Cath Holding Recovery Unit. This is a temporary, full-time position for a Day shift Traveler. The unit, known as the CARE Unit (Cardiac Assessment, Recovery, and Evaluation Unit), operates from 6 am to 11 pm, Monday through Friday, admitting and recovering patients primarily during the day. The unit prepares and recovers patients for procedures in the Cath lab, EP lab, Minor Procedure Room, and the Cardiac OR. The average daily patient volume is approximately 40-60 patients, including both inpatients and outpatients. Procedures include Cardiac Catheterization (interventional and diagnostic), Electrophysiology procedures (cardiac ablations), Cardioversions, surgery, and ICDs/Pacemakers. In the recovery area, RNs are trained to remove arterial and venous sheaths, perform nursing assessments, and escalate critical patients. This role requires the ability to lift, push, pull, and stand for extended periods.

Requirements

  • Two or more years of current acute care hospital experience related to ICU, PACU, or Cardiac Cath.
  • Associates, Bachelors, Masters, or diploma in the Nursing Field required.
  • Virginia or Compact Multi-State License in good standing.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • ACLS certification.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and stand for long periods of time.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Cardiac holding areas.
  • Experience with PACU Phase II.
  • Experience with sedation recovery (moderate sedation and general anesthesia) or similar areas.
  • Experience with pulling sheaths in femoral, radial, & brachial sites.
  • Experience with vascular complication management.
  • Experience with epidural & gtt management post operatively.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and recover patients for procedures in the Cath lab, EP lab, Minor Procedure Room, and Cardiac OR.
  • Perform nursing assessments per procedural guidelines.
  • Escalate patients who become critical or are unable to achieve preoperative baseline.
  • Remove arterial and venous sheaths from femoral, radial, and brachial sites.
  • Admit and recover patients.
