About The Position

Sentara Heart Hospital located on the campus of Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Cardiac Cath Holding Recovery Unit. This position is for a Temporary Full time Day shift Traveler. Must have two or more years of current acute care hospital experience related to ICU, PACU, or Cardiac Cath to qualify. We are a CARE Unit: Cardiac Assessment, Recovery, and Evaluation Unit. Our unit is open 6am-11pm Monday-Friday. We admit and recover patients mostly during the day. The unit prepares and recovers patients for procedures in the Cath lab, EP lab, and Minor Procedure Room as well as the Cardiac OR for surgery. The average patient volume each day for this unit is approximately 40-60 patients a day which includes inpatients and outpatients. The types of procedures that we prepare and recover patients for include but is not limited to: Cardiac Catheterization (interventional and diagnostic), Electrophysiology procedures such as cardiac ablations, Cardioversions, surgery and ICDs/Pacemakers etc. In the recovery area, the RNs are trained to remove arterial and venous sheaths from the femoral, radial and brachial sites, perform nursing assessments per procedural guidelines, escalate patients who become critical or are unable to achieve preoperative baseline. This job does require the capabilities to lift, push, pull, and standing for long periods of time.

Requirements

  • Virginia or Compact Multi-State License in good standing
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • ACLS
  • Two or more years of current acute care hospital RN experience
  • Capabilities to lift, push, pull, and standing for long periods of time

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Cardiac holding areas, PACU Phase II, sedation recovery (moderate sedation and general anesthesia) or similar areas
  • Experience with pulling sheaths in femoral, radial, & brachial sites
  • Vascular complication management
  • Epidural & gtt management post operatively

Responsibilities
