The Travel Consultant sells and recommends international and domestic travel packages, including cruises, land packages, itineraries, air, car, and hotel arrangements. The role draws on travel knowledge and personal experiences or educational study trips to tailor recommendations to members’ expectations and build lasting relationships that generate referrals and repeat business. Consultants also cross-sell relevant products to enhance the travel experience, such as the AAA Member Rewards Credit Card, and identify theft referrals. This is a sales-driven, member-service role requiring organization, attention to detail, multitasking in a fast-paced environment, proficiency with computers and multiple programs, strong communication skills, and a willingness to keep learning. Consultants are evaluated on sales, customer service, administrative and operational proficiency, up-selling, cross-selling, and goal achievement. Successful evaluations may lead to future leadership opportunities, including management. New hires complete the Travel Consultant Trainee program, which includes some travel for training.
