About The Position
As a Patient Transporter at CHI Mercy Health, you provide essential assistance and transportation for patients and related items across the campus, supporting a customer-sensitive and seamless experience. You promptly and safely transport inpatients and outpatients to and from hospital areas, including the imaging department, and return patients to their rooms after examinations. You confirm patient identification, greet and assist patients with transfers, observe their condition during transport, and report concerns to appropriate personnel. You also help maintain clean, organized, and properly stocked work areas and equipment. A student loan repayment program is offered.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- AHA BLS certification within 30 days.
Nice To Haves
- Certified Nursing Assistant certification.
Responsibilities
- Promptly and safely transport inpatients and outpatients to and from hospital areas, including the imaging department.
- Return patients to their rooms after examinations and ensure they are reconnected to devices removed for transport.
- Confirm patient identification and document initials, two patient identifiers, oxygen levels, and devices connected before transport on the requisition.
- Greet patients and assist with transferring, positioning, and moving them, using necessary lift systems.
- Observe patients’ condition during transport and report issues to appropriate personnel.
- Assist technologists with positioning and moving patients.
- Maintain clean linen supply, monitor and restock the blanket warmer, and stock patient scrubs.
- Regularly disinfect gurneys and wheelchairs.
- Keep equipment properly stored when not in use and report malfunctioning equipment.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
