About The Position

At NewYork-Presbyterian, Transporters help provide a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment for patients and their families. The role focuses on compassionate, courteous patient service and supporting patients’ comfort and safety while escorting them throughout the hospital. Transporters also move patients from nursing units to hospital departments and make pickups and deliveries of medical records, lab specimens, pharmacy items, and other equipment. The position may involve changing oxygen tanks and applying oxygen regulators to conveyance vehicles.

This is a part-time day-shift position at NewYork-Presbyterian Queens in Flushing, NY. The schedule includes weekdays, weekends, and holidays; weekends are required for the first two years. Registration with the 1199 Job Security Fund is required. The listed salary range is $26.24–$27.91 per hour.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Ability to follow simple directions.
• Registration with the 1199 Job Security Fund.
• Availability to work weekdays, weekends, and holidays; weekends are required for the first two years.

Nice To Haves

• Some previous food service experience is desirable.
• Extensive customer service experience and a desire to put patients first.
• Experience in the hotel, restaurant, or retail industry.

Responsibilities

• Escort patients to areas throughout the hospital in a courteous manner and respond to their needs and inquiries politely and promptly.
• Build relationships with patients and their families and provide attentive, compassionate service.
• Help ensure patients’ comfort and safety at all times.
• Transport patients from nursing units to various hospital departments.
• Pick up and deliver medical records, lab specimens, pharmacy items, and other equipment.
• Change oxygen tanks and apply oxygen regulators on conveyance vehicles when needed.
