Transportation Worker II
About The Position
This is a Transportation Worker II position located in Division 2 Greene Co. Maintenance Unit. Work will consist of a wide range of progressively responsible maintenance tasks in the preventive maintenance, repair, and construction of State Maintained roads and roadside features. Work includes installing traffic and erosion control devices, operating a variety of hand and power tools, clearing right of way, performing preventive maintenance and repairs to pavements, shoulder maintenance, pipe installation or other drainage tasks, inventorying and tracking quantities used of materials, performing manual labor tasks, and the operation of assigned heavy equipment.
Requirements
- Lifting up to 80 lbs. repeatedly
- Walking and standing for long periods of time
- Shoveling, raking, and sweeping
- Exposure to all types of weather conditions
- Traversing steep and uneven terrain
- Working in extreme temperature conditions
- Performing manual labor road maintenance duties
- Acting upon both verbal and written communication
- Possession of a Class A CDL with N endorsements and no restrictions, or ability to obtain within 360 days of hire
- Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle
- Must be at least 21 years of age to transport inmates
- High school or General Educational Development diploma and three years of experience operating equipment directly related to the field of specialization; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Nice To Haves
- Working knowledge of standard road maintenance and construction procedures
- Working knowledge of Work Zone Safety and Workplace safety policies
- Experience in at least two pieces of Category B Maintenance equipment (asphalt distributor, asphalt mixer, asphalt patcher, crack sealing machine, ditching machine, force feed loader, front end loader, lube truck, asphalt maintainer, post driver, skid steer, street sweeper, tandem dump truck, tractor “A” boom mower, truck w/aerial device)
- Experience in one of the following: pipe installation, installation of erosion control devices, snow and ice removal, ditch maintenance or asphalt patching
- Experience in snow and ice removal operations
