About The Position

Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson (JMT) is a dynamic, 100% employee-owned consulting firm with over 2,800 professionals, offering a wide range of multidisciplinary engineering, architecture, information technology, and related services to public agencies and private clients across the United States. JMT's Construction Management Team is seeking a Transportation Technician IV to serve as a lead inspector overseeing transportation construction projects in North Carolina. Statewide opportunities are available. This position is open in multiple North Carolina locations. Immigration sponsorship is not available, except for qualified candidates eligible for the TN visa classification.

Requirements

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Must successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screening
  • Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and seven (7) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Active driver’s license
  • Experience analyzing and interpreting highway construction plans
  • Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking and completing projects independently or with limited supervision
  • Experience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems
  • Thorough understanding of DOT Standards and Specifications and Roadway Standard Drawings

Nice To Haves

  • NCDOT certifications including Concrete Field Technician, QMS Roadway Technician, and Conventional Density Testing preferred
  • Experience with local clients preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform inspection of contractor’s operations on a variety of transportation projects including roadway and bridge construction to verify conformance to plans and specifications
  • Supervise and maintain subordinate inspection staff throughout construction of the project
  • Measure and track quantities of pay items
  • Gather and maintain record documents including material certifications, testing reports, and inspector’s daily diaries
  • Interact with the public, government agencies, contractors, subcontractors, and other internal and external parties to respond to inquiries and resolve field issues
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
