About The Position

The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) is seeking a customer-focused individual to join the Driver and Motor Vehicles Division (DMV) as a Transportation Services Representative 1 in Ontario. This role involves assisting the public with driver license applications, vehicle registration, permit and license plate issuance, administering knowledge and vision tests, collecting fees, providing information on regulations, and conducting behind-the-wheel tests. The position offers training on vehicle laws, agency policies, and regulations. The majority of the work will be performed in the Eastern Oregon Border Economic Region. Requirements

Two years of public contact/customer service experience which involved dealing with the public in person or by phone providing information about services/programs or explaining and/or applying rules, regulations and procedures.
Experience or training using computers to retrieve and input data.
Three months experience collecting money and making change.
Valid US driver license and an acceptable driving record.
Ability to type at least 30 words per minute with a high level of accuracy.

Responsibilities

Assist the public with obtaining a driver license, registering vehicles and issuing permits and license plates.
Administer knowledge and vision tests to potential drivers.
Ensure correct fees are collected.
Provide information about regulations and policies.
Administer behind-the-wheel drive tests.
Help the public register vehicles and apply for permits.
Provide exceptional customer service while following privacy laws.
Communicate clearly with customers from diverse backgrounds to accurately answer complex questions in a way that is easily understood.
Produce photo licenses, instruction permits and identification cards.
Administer, correct and explain driver license tests.
Conduct and interpret results of driver vision tests.
Perform physical examinations of vehicles and verify vehicle identification numbers.
Prepare daily bank deposits and account for sensitive inventory.
Occasionally perform relief work in other DMV offices within the region.
