About The Position

The Agency of Transportation is seeking a Transportation Operations Technician II. This position is located in District 7's Lyndonville garage and is responsible for various tasks related to highway maintenance, such as repairing guardrails, cutting trees/brush, patching roads, picking litter, ditching, and more. In the winter months, this position will also assist with plowing and salting, and overtime may be required. These entry-level positions offer excellent benefits, opportunities for career development, and a CDL training program. A minimum of a Class B is required prior to the completion of an employee's 6-month probationary period. This position is eligible for a sign-on and retention bonus of up to $2000! Newly hired CDL and non-CDL holders who are hired into permanent maintenance worker or mechanic job on or after July 13, 2025 are eligible. Although the full salary range for this position is provided, new hires are typically made at the salary range minimum.

Requirements

One (1) year of work experience in construction, equipment operation, or related manual labor INCLUDING EITHER one season of operating a snowplow with wings OR six (6) months of operating medium or heavy equipment, such as graders, excavators, and backhoes.
Upon successful completion of original probation as a Transportation Operations Technician I AND possession of a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with tanker endorsement.
A Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required.
An incumbent must live within reasonable proximity of assigned workstation.
Possession of a Class A Commercial Driver's License with Tanker Endorsement is required within the first six months of employment.
An incumbent must complete all VTTC required coursework within one (1) year or be enrolled.
Non-original probationary employees must obtain a required CDL license prior to the completion of six (6) months of service in the position.
In accordance with federal regulation, any person applying for employment as an operator of a commercial motor vehicle must provide detailed employment information for the past 10 years.
Participation in a random drug and alcohol-testing program is required.
