About The Position

GFT is seeking a part-time Transportation Management Center (TMC) Operator to join our Practice or CBG Team in Chipley, FL! This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at our Chipley, FL office. We are currently offering the following positions for qualified candidates to fill current needs: Full-Time (40 hours a week/with benefits, flexible shifts). Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Proficiency in communicating information over a radio system or network.
  • Expertise in using freeway management and other traffic control computer applications.
  • Strong ability to write reports and correspondence.
  • Effective coordination of real-time activities and priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively within a diverse team.
  • Experience in handling calls, dispatching via radio or telephone, and communicating clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in using computers with Windows-based applications.
  • Flexibility to work alternate schedules and be on-call as necessary.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check.

  • Experience in public safety, emergency management, transportation dispatch, or related fields

Responsibilities

  • Traffic Operations situational awareness, data entry and monitoring a designated region, district and roadway for normal and emergency conditions to identify incidents, coordinate response and update status for DOT and Consultant management in a 24/7/365 environment, using various software, CCTV and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS).
  • Monitor traffic cameras to spot and respond to incidents quickly.
  • Use CCTV cameras, congestion info from state and commercial sources, crowdsourcing apps like Google Traffic and Waze, and work with partners like Police and DOT.
  • Dispatch DOT staff and contracted crews for routine and emergency road maintenance like fixing potholes, maintaining traffic signs, electrical traffic control devices, salting, and snow removal.
  • Proactively monitor road closures and notify DOT staff about any unauthorized closures.
  • Monitor field equipment, dashboards, and software/hardware used in the TMC and report any issues to DOT maintenance staff.
  • Use TMC equipment and software to actively monitor traffic.
  • Put up signing plans on DOT's Variable Message Signs (VMS) and Dynamic Message Signs (DMS).
  • Monitor CCTV cameras, electronic signs, vehicle detection systems, incident reporting systems, and other systems to manage traffic.
  • Ensure traveler information is communicated accurately and timely through DOT's channels.
  • Verify the accuracy of traveler information on DOT's public service platforms and report any issues.
  • Monitor hotspots, smart work zones, and changes in road/lane alignments using CCTV cameras and other sources.
  • Communicate with various stakeholders to get a comprehensive view of road conditions.
