About The Position

WSP is currently searching for a Transportation Management Center (TMC) Operations Manager based out of Hauppauge, NY. This professional level position involves a variety of operational and management level duties, with responsibility for the daily operation of the INFORM control center. The role actively engages in projects with the Mobility Operations Team, contributing to a growing organization that meets client objectives and solves challenges. Work is performed under minimal supervision and direction of the NYSDOT PM and includes performance of all INFORM traffic management functions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (5 years of qualifying experience may be substituted in place of a Bachelor’s degree).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in managing a TMC type facility that operates a minimum of 50 instrumental lane miles.
  • 10+ years of overall experience.
  • Experience in Scheduling, administration, performance evaluation, hiring, employee relations, problem solving and leadership.
  • Supervision of a minimum of 15 employees.
  • Knowledge of Computer/Software – including MS Office applications, spreadsheets and databases.
  • Knowledge of Personnel management.
  • Knowledge of Public, internal and external relations (works well with internal, external and partner groups and individuals).
  • Ability to Mentor and train new staff, and able to respond to problem situations 24/7/365.
  • This hire is contingent upon client approval.

Responsibilities

  • Performance of all INFORM traffic management functions is inherent to this position.
  • Oversight of training and management of approximately 25-30 employees including operators, H.E.L.P. dispatchers and inspectors.
  • Coordination of all activities on all shifts.
  • Serving as primary interface with NYSDOT and maintenance contractors for all operational outages and failures.
  • Coordinating the deployment of all portable variable message signs and developing message content.
  • Keeps the NYSDOT Project Manager informed, on a daily basis, of all matters affecting the operations of the INFORM control center.
  • On call 24/7/365 for emergency and/or operational problems.
  • Attend meetings with the NYSDOT PM for purposes of relaying information.
  • Create and distribute weekly and monthly reports as needed.
  • Support special requests by the NYSDOT PM for gathering data and/or generating reports.
  • Ensure all training materials are maintained and accessible to the System Operators.
  • Coordinate daily schedules of the System Operators and ensures coverage is complete on every shift.
  • Ensure all personnel are informed of special events affecting the INFORM system (e.g., special signing or roadwork).
  • Monitor and audit operator functions for accuracy and professionalism.
  • Maintain all traffic signal and system maintenance files, coordinate all requests and or repairs of program “bugs” with the appropriate personnel.
  • Draft memos, bulletins, requisitions, reports and other similar materials using general company guidelines.
  • Monitor all On-The-Job Training (OJT).
  • Coordinate daily work with maintenance contractor, logs and administers Work Orders (WO) and payment requests.
