About The Position

The State of Connecticut, Department of Transportation (DOT), is seeking qualified applicants for Transportation Maintainer 2 - Electrical positions, with the target class of Qualified Craft Worker in the Milford Electrical Facility. This role involves performing electrical repairs, installation, and maintenance of the Department's traffic lights and highway illumination within District 2. The position offers professional growth and development opportunities and a healthy work/life balance. Selected candidates will be required to complete a pre-employment physical, work assessment, and respirator physical. The role requires willingness to accept emergency duties, including snow and ice removal, and working at heights in a bucket truck for high voltage repairs. A 30-mile residency requirement from the posted job location applies.

Requirements

  • Possess formal electrical education with proof of certification.
  • At least 2 years of working experience in the electrical field.
  • Hold a current and valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tank endorsement (Class A or B).
  • Possess a valid Medical Examiner's Card (MEC).
  • Willingness to accept assignment to emergency duties, including snow and ice removal.
  • Willingness to accept mandatory winter overtime from November 1 through April 30.
  • Willingness to stay at work for the duration of storm events, including holidays and weekends.
  • Willingness to accept emergency duty assignments, including working at heights in a bucket truck and performing high voltage repairs.
  • Meet the 30-mile residency requirement from the posted job location.

Responsibilities

  • Perform electrical repairs, installation, and maintenance of the Department's traffic lights and highway illumination within District 2.
  • Operate and maintain complex mechanical equipment.
  • Perform routine repairs on mechanical equipment.
  • Accept assignment to emergency duties, including snow and ice removal, whenever services are needed.
  • Perform mandatory winter overtime from November 1 through April 30.
  • Stay at work for the duration of storm events, which could be up to several days, including holidays and weekends.
  • Work at heights in a bucket truck on highways and secondary roads.
  • Perform high voltage repairs to highway lighting and traffic signals.
