About The Position

Mott MacDonald is seeking an experienced Transportation Design Area Lead for Central South Florida -SVP to lead the growth, strategy, and delivery of roadway and highway engineering services in Central and South Florida. This leadership role combines technical excellence, project delivery, business development, client management, and team leadership to support the continued expansion of our transportation practice. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with divisional and regional leadership including Mott MacDonald’s Director of Transportation – Florida to develop and implement strategic growth plans, strengthen key client relationships, build a robust pursuit pipeline, and deliver complex transportation projects for FDOT, municipal agencies, and other transportation clients. This individual will serve as a senior technical leader, project executive, and trusted advisor while supporting the recruitment, development, and mentoring of high-performing teams across the Florida transportation market.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
  • Florida Professional Engineer (PE) registration.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in roadway and highway engineering.
  • Demonstrated experience leading transportation design projects for FDOT and municipal clients.
  • Experience managing conventional design-bid-build and design-build transportation projects.
  • Strong knowledge of roadway geometrics, intersections, arterials, interstates, and interchange design.
  • Experience managing large, multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Working knowledge of: MicroStation, GEOPAK, OpenRoads Designer (ORD), Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proven business development and client management experience.
  • Strong understanding of FDOT engineering practices, standards, procedures, and documentation requirements.
  • Excellent written, verbal, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with clients, agencies, stakeholders, and internal teams.
  • Strong attention to detail, quality management, and project controls.

  • Engineer of Record experience on a diverse range of FDOT transportation projects.
  • Experience delivering FDOT District-Wide Contracts and Continuing Services Contracts.
  • Well-established relationships with FDOT, county, municipal, and transportation agency clients throughout Florida.
  • Demonstrated success winning and delivering complex transportation projects.
  • Experience serving in a senior leadership capacity within a transportation consulting organization.
  • Strong understanding of transportation market trends, funding programs, and client priorities across Florida.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Central and South Florida Transportation Design Area Leader, supporting the development and execution of strategic client engagement and growth plans.
  • Collaborate with divisional leadership and Mott MacDonald’s Director of Transportation – Florida to ensure alignment with business goals, growth strategies, and operational objectives.
  • Develop and implement account management plans and pursuit strategies for key transportation clients.
  • Build and maintain a healthy opportunity pipeline through proactive business development and client engagement.
  • Drive senior-level relationships with FDOT, expressway authorities, municipalities, counties, and other transportation agencies.
  • Lead project positioning, capture planning, and pursuit efforts to increase win rates.
  • Champion and role-model Mott MacDonald’s CAPTURE and WIN processes for pursuits and proposals.
  • Utilize CRM systems to support account management, opportunity tracking, resource planning, forecasting, and pipeline management.
  • Serve as Bid Manager, Project Principal, Project Manager, or Pursuit Lead as needed.
  • Lead proposal and interview preparation efforts, including strategy development, staffing, technical approach, and presentation coaching.
  • Be accountable for proposal budgets and pursuit investments.
  • Lead and manage roadway design and transportation infrastructure projects throughout Florida and the southeastern United States.
  • Develop project scopes, schedules, budgets, and staffing plans.
  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality.
  • Manage multidisciplinary teams across design, environmental, structures, traffic, drainage, utilities, and construction disciplines.
  • Serve as Project Manager, Project Principal, or Engineer of Record on key transportation projects.
  • Provide technical leadership in the design of: Limited Access Highways, Tolled Expressways, Urban and Rural Arterials, Interchanges, Intersections, Roadway Reconstruction and Widening Projects, Milling and Resurfacing Projects.
  • Perform and oversee engineering analyses, design reviews, and quality assurance activities.
  • Ensure compliance with FDOT standards, specifications, policies, and design criteria.
  • Represent Mott MacDonald to clients, stakeholders, industry organizations, and project partners.
  • Recruit, mentor, and develop project managers, engineering professionals, and technical staff.
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture focused on innovation, quality, and client service.
  • Provide technical guidance, coaching, and career development opportunities for team members.
  • Support strategic hiring initiatives to grow Mott MacDonald’s Florida transportation practice.
  • Delegate responsibilities effectively while maintaining accountability for project success.
