About The Position

This role offers meaningful responsibility and professional growth within District 5 of the Department of Transportation. The Transportation Construction Inspector Supervisor helps oversee inspection activities and ensures projects meet required standards. The position involves leading others, supporting field decisions, and guiding construction projects to success. It is a leadership role within a team that values strong leadership and technical skill.

Requirements

  • One year as a Transportation Construction Inspector (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years of construction inspection experience and an associate’s degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Possession of a valid non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver’s License or equivalent.
  • Meet the PA residency requirement.
  • Able to perform essential job functions.

Nice To Haves

  • Opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 5 days per pay period after successful completion of probationary period.
  • Must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania to telework.
  • Option to report to the headquarters office in Allentown if unable to telework.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise inspection activities to ensure compliance with plans, standards, and contract requirements.
  • Check materials, elevations, stakeouts, and workmanship during construction operations.
  • Interpret contract requirements and instruct staff in inspection, sampling, and testing methods.
  • Assist with resolving field issues, preparing reports, and maintaining accurate documentation.
  • Assign work, evaluate performance, guide staff development, and support training needs.
  • Coordinate with engineers, contractors, and staff to share updates and address project concerns.
