About The Position

Transportation Associates will perform trailer moves in the trailer yard, coordinate yard activities (such as checking in trailers, traffic flow, internal communications with operations, etc.), conduct yard audits, complete applicable driver training programs (Hostler, Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) School, etc.), and operate multiple vehicle types based on business need (including but not limited to hostlers and day cabs) to support Amazon’s transportation network. As a Transportation Associate, you will make safety a priority, perform various functions within the yard, support site operations teams, internal transportation field teams, and external carriers. You will be professionally trained to operate Commercial Motor Vehicles (CMVs) on non-public roads or in yard to move trailers to/from dock and parking locations, learn Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, and comply with company policies. You will also complete driver vehicle inspection reports, follow hostler and delivery schedules, track and report working hours, and support the business by serving as a peer trainer or working at nearby site locations. Dependent on business need, you may have the opportunity to earn your Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) paid for by Amazon. If requested due to business need, Transportation Associates must obtain their Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and Driver Qualification File (DQF) and utilize it as a condition of the role, paid for by Amazon. If Associate is requested to become CDL and DQF certified to drive Over-the-Road for Amazon, this position becomes regulated by the Department of Transportation (DOT) and follows regulations issued by the DOT’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). English proficiency is required per federal regulation for these roles.

Requirements

  • Hold a valid and active driver’s license
  • High School or equivalent diploma
  • Candidates must be 21 years or older with the ability to understand and adhere to all job requirement and safety guidelines in English.
  • Can lift up to 49 pounds, stand and walk during shifts lasting up to 12 hours, and frequently push, pull, squat, bend, reach and ascend/descend stairs
  • Work 40 hours/week, and overtime as required
  • Work a flexible schedule/shift/work area, including weekends, nights, and/or holidays
  • Successful completion of a DOT-regulated pre-employment background screening, a DOT physical and Amazon’s pre-employment drug test (contingent upon CDL and DQF certification)
  • English proficiency is required per federal regulation (for Department of Labor/Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration roles)

Responsibilities

  • Make safety a priority by adhering to company rules and regulations. You will follow and enforce safety measures and policies to all who operate vehicles on behalf of Amazon and those who enter the yard, including vendors and senior team members
  • Perform various functions within the yard, support site operations teams, internal transportation field teams, and external carriers, as needed, to ensure all trailers arrive and depart on time with zero defects and to maintain workflow for buildings.
  • Be professionally trained to operate Commercial Motor Vehicles (CMVs) on non-public roads or in yard to move trailers to/from dock and parking locations.
  • Learn Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and comply with company policies, procedures of those DOT regulations (size, weight, route designations, parking, trailer designations, violation and incident reporting requirements, break periods, etc.)
  • Complete driver vehicle inspection reports on equipment and notify managers of any maintenance or delivery issues encountered.
  • Follow hostler and delivery schedules, track and report working hours and breaks at appropriate times in compliance with Amazon policy and federal and state regulations, adhere to yard safety policies, obey all applicable traffic laws, and drive in accordance with weather/road conditions.
  • Support the business on an as needed basis by serving as a peer trainer and/or working at nearby site locations within the area
  • Drive, maneuver, and load/unload a truck using approved equipment (pallet jack, etc.).
  • Obtain their Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and Driver Qualification File (DQF) and utilize it as a condition of the role, if requested due to business need.
