About The Position

TYLin is seeking a candidate to expand the growth and delivery of the transportation planning practice in the NY Region, with a particular focus on one or more of the following practice areas: Vision Zero and Safe Mobility; Active Transportation/Complete Streets; Comprehensive Planning; Strategic Planning; City/Neighborhood Mobility Plans; New Mobility; Micromobility; Curb management; Corridor Planning; Highway Mitigation/Removal; Freight Planning; Sustainability & Resilience; and Transportation Demand Management. They will work as part of an interdisciplinary team of planners, transportation/civil engineers, and data scientists to lead and advise on a wide variety of planning, policy, design, and stakeholder engagement activities.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated success managing complex transportation planning and/or design projects, including management of staff, budgets, and clients
  • Strong written and verbal communicator who understands current and emerging industry best practices and can speak authoritatively on those topics
  • Has existing strong client and partner relationships
  • Ability to foster a team environment and lead, motivate, and mentor staff
  • Involvement in relevant professional organizations locally and/or nationally (NACTO, APA, ITE, TRB, or others as relevant)
  • Experience in marketing, networking, and business development
  • Familiarity with industry best practices (e.g., MUTCD, NACTO, AASHTO, and other relevant guidelines)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, ArcGIS, Adobe Creative Suite, Power BI and/or other industry software
  • A minimum of 10 years of transportation planning experience with at least 5 years of experience in a consulting firm or similar
  • Degree in urban planning, urban design, or related field

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee strategic and citywide transportation planning projects, managing project budgets and schedules, and implementing QA/QC processes
  • Leading interdisciplinary project teams and the development of technical reports and presentations
  • Build tools, procedures, or analyses that set our practice apart from competitors and ensure consistency of products internally
  • Foster and maintain strong client relationships
  • Occasional travel to client sites is required
  • Leading business development initiatives and production of proposals (spearheading proposal responses, pursuing intelligence activities)
  • Contribute to the business development strategy for specific practice areas, the national planning practice, and the regional market
  • Represent the firm through thought leadership at conferences, professional organizations, and through social media
  • Provide staff mentorship, including sharing technical expertise, professional development advice and helping to guide staff growth
  • Assist with workload planning, identifying gaps in staffing, and lead recruiting efforts to fill gaps
  • Potential to manage and supervise a team of staff (2-4 staff), ensuring adequate capabilities and capacity and anticipating succession planning needs
