About The Position

You will serve as a TRANSPORTATION ASSISTANT (OA) in the DISTRIBUTION MANAGEMENT OFFICE (DMO) of the MARINE CORPS AIR GROUND COMBAT CTR. Duties include ensuring all proper documentation is submitted to the Joint Personal Property Shipping Office - Southwest (JPPSO-SW) for route and awarding. You will advise applicants of their responsibilities before, during, and after the Transportation Service Provider’s (TSP) services for their move. You will maintain daily records of shipments processed and electronically file them into the Total Record Information Management System (TRIM). You will also calculate possible excess costs for exceeding weight allowances or shipping to/from alternate origin/destination locations. You will use automated data processing equipment, including the Transportation Operational Personal Property System (TOPS) and the Defense Personal Property System (DPS).

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
  • New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade.
  • Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • This position requires the ability to type at least 40 words per minute.
  • The position requires the ability to pass a background investigation.
  • Resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
  • Specialized experience must demonstrate: Assisting personnel in the movement of personal property, selecting carriers, processing invoices received from carriers, responding to customer inquiries, tracking status of shipments of automated systems AND counseling on transportation entitlements.
