About The Position

Transport eligible veterans to and from the Dayton VA Medical Center (VAMC), picking them up and returning them to their place of residence. This role also involves transporting VAMC-referred veterans to other medical appointments in the vicinity of the Dayton VAMC and to WPAFB. The driver will provide new passengers with the van transportation policy, record and complete mileage and fuel usage, and coordinate with veterans needing assistance equipment. Additionally, the driver will coordinate with VAMC nurses and social workers for hospitalized veteran releases and assist veterans with appointment changes to accommodate the transportation schedule. Maintaining the safety and hygiene of the van and communicating needs to the Transportation Coordinator are also key responsibilities. The position requires adherence to all job safety requirements and applicable OSHA safety standards, as well as demonstrating regular and predictable attendance.

Requirements

  • Possess a valid Ohio driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • No felony convictions.
  • Completion of secondary education or equivalent with training or experience in vehicle operation.
  • Knowledge to use Microsoft Office Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Internet savvy to use MapQuest and other search programs.
  • Ability to use a Global Positioning System (GPS) or be able to read maps and navigate around different routes.
  • Ability to network and coordinate with other agencies.

Responsibilities
