About The Position

The Specimen Courier is responsible for transporting laboratory specimens between SLUH and Cardinal Glennon. When not performing courier duties, this role supports laboratory operations through specimen processing, answering telephone inquiries, and preparing and sorting specimens for testing. Transports patients, equipment and other items as specified within Saint Louis University Hospital and its associated facilities. All functions are performed promptly, effectively and efficiently, observing infection control and patient safety guidelines at all times.

Requirements

• Basic computer proficiency with the ability to learn and utilize Epic and other electronic medical record systems.
• Previous laboratory, specimen handling, healthcare, or customer service experience preferred, with knowledge of specimen processing workflows and specimen integrity best practices.
• All transporters must be certified in Basic Life Support (BLS-CPR).
• Lifts, positions, push and/or transfer patients and equipment.
• Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, lifting, pushing, pulling 100+ pounds.
• Must be able to remain calm and work concisely in highly demanding circumstances.
• Must have normal vision (with/without the use of corrective lenses).
• Must hear and speak suitably for normal conversation.
• May require the wearing of protective equipment, i.e., gloves, mask, gown, goggles, etc.
• Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)

Nice To Haves

• High School diploma/GED or 10 years of work experience
• Previous customer service and/or patient experience.
• Work experience in a position that or ability to work in involved high interaction with the public and efficient communication skills.
