This role offers a hybrid work arrangement from Sargent & Lundy’s future Knoxville office, with an expectation of working in the office three days per week and remotely two days per week. The position uses and develops design skills in a multidisciplinary team with electrical and structural designers and/or engineers to create transmission and distribution line drawings and designs. The designer will apply computer-aided drafting and design skills and receive hands-on training in 3D design software environments such as AutoCAD 3D and/or MicroStation. The role includes developing transmission line plans and profile drawings, transmission/distribution line hardware details, material lists, and grounding details. The designer creates scaled master sketches showing proposed installations in relation to existing facilities, including specifications and dimensions. In preparing drawings, the designer confers with engineering staff to interpret input such as engineering specifications, weight and volume calculations, and stress factors. The designer may also assist project team members with client-facility walkdowns and explain drawings to vendors and construction contractors so appropriate design adjustments can be made. Sargent & Lundy does not sponsor employees for U.S. work authorization for this position. Employees may use data, automation, artificial intelligence, and other digital tools as relevant to their work, while remaining accountable for their work and applying appropriate professional judgment and review.
