This position offers a hybrid work arrangement from Sargent & Lundy's future Knoxville office, with three days per week in the office and two days working remotely. The designer will work in a project team with engineers and other electrical and structural designers and/or engineers to develop transmission and distribution line drawings and designs. The role uses computer-aided drafting and design skills and provides hands-on training in 3D design software environments such as AutoCAD 3D and/or MicroStation. The work includes developing transmission line plans and profile drawings, transmission/distribution line hardware details, material lists, and grounding details. The designer creates scaled master sketches showing proposed installations in relation to existing facilities, including exact specifications and dimensions. In preparing drawings, the designer confers directly with engineering staff to interpret input such as engineering specifications, weight and volume calculations, and stress factors. The role may also involve accompanying project team members on client-facility walkdowns to gather design information and explaining drawings to vendors and construction contractors so appropriate design adjustments can be made.
