This role offers a hybrid work arrangement from Sargent & Lundy's future Knoxville office, with three days per week in the office and two days working remotely. The Transmission Line Designer will work in a multidisciplinary team with electrical and structural designers and engineers to develop transmission and distribution line drawings and designs. The role provides opportunities to apply and expand computer-aided drafting and design skills, including hands-on training in 3D design software such as AutoCAD 3D and/or MicroStation. The position involves preparing transmission line plans and profile drawings, transmission and distribution line hardware details, material lists, grounding details, and scaled master sketches showing proposed installations in relation to existing facilities. The designer will consult with engineering staff to interpret information from engineering specifications, weight and volume calculations, and stress factors. The role may also involve assisting project team members with walkdowns at client facilities and explaining drawings to vendors and construction contractors so that appropriate design adjustments can be made. Sargent & Lundy values appropriate use of technology to improve work and deliver quality outcomes. Employees may use data, automation, artificial intelligence, and other digital tools in relevant work, while remaining accountable for their work and applying professional judgment and review. AI, automation, programming, or similar experience is valued where relevant, but is not required unless specified elsewhere.
