About The Position

The Engineering Manager, Transmission leads the day-to-day operations of Westwood’s Transmission Engineering group, overseeing technical designers, engineers, and supervisors who develop engineering designs, cost estimates, and technical deliverables for clients across the power line portfolio. The manager is accountable for group performance, quality standards, regulatory compliance, staff development, and continuous improvement. Reporting to the Director of Transmission Engineering, the manager directs resource planning and forecasting, evaluates staff performance, and collaborates with other practice groups and firm leadership. The role serves as acting Director of Transmission Engineering in the Director’s absence and includes both operational and strategic responsibilities. The manager also maintains client relationships and identifies opportunities to expand the firm’s work with existing and prospective clients. Travel to client sites and project locations may be required as needed.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural or Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
Active Professional Engineering (PE) license.
At least 10 years of experience in power transmission design, including prior supervisory experience.
Advanced knowledge of overhead and underground transmission facilities and their integration into utility operations and project delivery.
Demonstrated engineering team leadership, including resource management, task delegation, and accountability.
Ability to provide clear direction on project assignments of varying complexity and manage multiple concurrent projects.
Working knowledge of NESC, ASCE, and IEEE standards as applied to transmission line design.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.
Strong written and oral communication skills with staff, leadership, clients, and stakeholders.
Ability to foster collaborative project teams and constructive cross-functional engagement.

Nice To Haves

Advanced degree in engineering or a related field.
Prior experience providing technical direction for a department or organization in power systems design.

Responsibilities

Direct day-to-day operations of Transmission Line design staff and ensure compliance with client procedures, design standards, regulatory requirements, and applicable safety codes.
Manage resource balancing and staffing forecasts across clients and projects, coordinating shared capacity and resource needs with other group managers.
Evaluate the performance and professional development of technical and supervisory staff; conduct reviews and address development needs.
Mentor and develop supervisory staff and principal engineers through instruction and structured growth opportunities.
Lead initiatives to improve group efficiency and product quality, and expand marketing and business development opportunities.
Guide professional communication with internal and external stakeholders at project and organizational levels.
Collaborate with the Director of Transmission Engineering to develop, evaluate, and implement policies and procedures reflecting current engineering practices.
Collaborate with other departments and divisions on company-wide initiatives and cross-functional priorities.
Perform the Director of Transmission Engineering’s responsibilities in the Director’s absence.
Maintain relationships with existing clients and pursue opportunities to grow the firm’s presence with prospective clients.
Travel to client sites and project locations as needed to support project work and client relationships.
