About The Position

The purpose of this job within the organization is to supervise the day to day operations of the transit bus operators, ensure buses are on schedule and run safely. This job works under close to general supervision according to set procedures, but determines how or when to complete tasks.

Requirements

Requires High School graduation or GED.
Requires one year experience in operating buses, coaches, vans or other vehicular equipment on the open highway.
Must have extensive knowledge of the City of Petersburg and also surrounding areas.
Must have experience with ADA policies and procedures.
Must have at least 6 months of experience in dealing with the general public.
Candidate must have extensive experience in working with computer software and have the ability to facilitate a safety training course.
Candidate must attend Drug and Alcohol program training within six months of employment.
Valid Virginia Commercial Driver's License Class B, with a Passenger Endorsement.

Supervisory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Prepares schedules for operators.
Maintains data on monthly safety training classes for bus operators.
Monitors bus routes; follows buses or rides buses with operators to ensure compliance with established federal and state laws and regulations, and City policies and procedures; makes recommendations for changes and improvements to existing standards and procedures.
Responds to and investigates complaints from the general public regarding transit operations; resolves problems in a timely and efficient manner.
Engages in disciplinary action of employees.
Assigns operators to routes to cover shortages.
Assists with maintaining the assigned uniform budget.
Reviews and monitors pre-trip inspections; coordinates maintenance and repairs for equipment and buses.
Conducts safety and training meetings.
Provides information to the public regarding operational changes.
Performs related work as assigned.
