About The Position

Under general supervision, this position supervises daily mass transit operations, enforces related municipal codes and ordinances as assigned, dispatches transportation, and provides information to field personnel on an assigned shift to ensure timely, efficient, and safe customer service.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED, or higher
  • Three (3) years of experience as a transit operator or three (3) years of transit dispatch experience.
  • Texas Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent from another state.
  • Texas Class "B" Commercial Driver's License or equivalent from another state within sixty (60) days of appointment.
  • Passenger endorsement within six (6) months of appointment.
  • Positions assigned to supervise and dispatch streetcar operations will be required to obtain a rail certification within sixty (60) days of appointment.
  • Positions of a safety sensitive nature are subject to drug and alcohol testing in accordance with federal regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise transit operations on an assigned shift and schedule field personnel to ensure timely, efficient, and safe customer service.
  • Provide guidance and direction to subordinate transit operators in route and shift coverage to ensure timeliness of service, customer satisfaction, and compliance with safety requirements set forth by Federal Transit Administration (FTA) regulations and motor carrier requirements.
  • Review requests and authorize schedule changes.
  • Assign operators, buses, and streetcars for run assignments not covered.
  • Arrange for substitute operators.
  • Prepare daily and hourly manifest, transit route information, and distribute paperwork to operators.
  • Monitor field operations, assignments, coordinate refueling, issue and control transfers, and perform revenue checks and passenger counts.
  • Oversee and monitor fixed route, streetcar, and/or paratransit operations to ensure sufficient staffing to facilitate orderly movement of passengers.
  • Inspect interior and exterior of coaches, streetcars, and bus stops for general appearance and cleanliness.
  • Dispatch calls and information to field personnel and coordinate work crew activities.
  • Communicate and maintain effective communication with field personnel regarding schedules, emergencies, complaints, mechanical problems, breakdowns, work orders, and customer requests.
  • Utilize application-specific scheduling/dispatching computer programs; use a switchboard, radio system, beeper, or other systems to communicate.
  • Investigate and respond to accidents, passenger complaints, and municipal code and city ordinance violations, as assigned.
  • Provide accurate information to inquiries and respond to complaints, including complaints from individuals who may be irate.
  • Ensure that accidents or complaints are properly investigated.
  • Assist in emergency situations including traffic control and transporting passengers in breakdowns.
  • Investigate, enforce, and document municipal code and city ordinance violations, as assigned.
  • Interact with other departments, supervisors, co-workers, and the public.
  • Provide depositions on cases involving accidents as necessary.
  • Issue parking citations.
  • Supervise assigned staff.
  • Assign, schedule, and monitor work.
  • Appraise employee performances.
  • Assist in training new employees.
  • Counsel, motivate, and maintain harmony.
  • Track attendance, approve or disapprove leave requests, and maintain attendance records.
  • Enforce personnel rules and regulations, and work behavior standards firmly and impartially.
  • Promote the observation of safe work practices.
  • Perform duties of immediate supervisor or subordinate personnel as necessary to ensure continuity of operations during absences.
