About The Position

Every day, thousands of local workers, residents, and visitors rely on Core Transit to get to work, school, and play across our mountain communities. As a Transit Mechanic, you will service and maintain the Core Transit fleet, ensuring our local bus system remains safe, dependable, and efficient. We are hiring one candidate at either the Mechanic I or Mechanic II level, depending on qualifications—offering a great path for growth within Eagle County Government.

Requirements

1+ year of maintenance experience on gas/diesel vehicles and wheel/tire repair.
Valid driver’s license (satisfactory MVR).
Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within 12 months (we help you get it!).
3+ years of journey-level mechanic experience on gas, diesel, or transit equipment.
Must provide your own tools and toolbox.
Valid driver’s license (satisfactory MVR) & ability to obtain a CDL within 12 months.

Nice To Haves

Technical degree or ASE Certifications (Transit Bus, Medium/Heavy Truck, or Automotive).

Responsibilities

Perform PM services, inspect operating/air systems, assist with road service, replace wheels/tires, and learn advanced diagnostics alongside experienced mechanics.
Diagnose complex mechanical and electronic system failures, perform annual DOT inspections, use electronic scanners/schematics to troubleshoot, and handle emergency call-outs/road repairs.
