King County Metro Transit is hiring journey-level mechanics to maintain and repair its diverse fleet of nearly 1,400 diesel, hybrid, trolley, and all-electric coaches, as well as other vehicles and heavy motorized equipment. Mechanics independently diagnose and repair mechanical systems using modern technology and diagnostic equipment, supporting safe and reliable transit service across King County. The role is part of the Vehicle Maintenance Division, a team that emphasizes safe practices, collaboration, knowledge sharing, training, and career development. The position is safety-sensitive and requires drug and alcohol testing, a post-offer pre-employment physical, and satisfactory completion of other pre-employment screening. Employees work onsite at a King County Vehicle Maintenance facility for 40 hours per week. Employees must be willing to work any shift, including swing or graveyard shifts, weekends, and varying days off. New employees will most likely be assigned to second or third shift. Schedules and locations are selected through a seniority-based bid system held twice yearly. This recruitment will immediately fill at least four career-service positions and may also establish an eligibility list for future career-service, temporary, or special-duty vacancies. The position is represented by Amalgamated Transit Union, Local 587.
