About The Position

The Gray Media Training Program at KPHO/KTVK (Arizona's Family) is a 10-week paid internship designed to provide college students with real-world experience in the media industry. Participants will step into roles such as producer, MMJ, meteorologist, or media sales executive, handling actual assignments that may be broadcast or published online. The program emphasizes digital engagement, content creation for social media, streaming apps, and web stories, and collaboration with experienced media professionals. Interns will dedicate 25 hours per week to mastering their chosen specialty and building a professional portfolio, with the goal of making an impact on the community or local businesses through innovative media strategies. This program serves as a direct pipeline for full-time career opportunities within Gray Media's network of 113 stations.

Requirements

  • Current enrollment as a college student (Junior or Senior status preferred).
  • Pursuing a degree in Journalism, Communications, Sales, Marketing, or a related field.
  • A "doer" mindset with initiative and a willingness to work.
  • Understanding that media happens everywhere, from the big screen to the palm of someone’s hand.
  • Strong work ethic, bringing urgency, organization, and a "can-do" attitude.
  • Clear and confident communication skills for storytelling, pitching ideas, or explaining forecasts.
  • Reliability and commitment to the full 10-week program and the 25-hour weekly schedule.
  • Passion for the community and a desire to see how local media makes a difference.
  • Be currently enrolled in a college/university as a degree-seeking student.
  • Major/emphasis in Journalism, Mass Media, Communications, or a related field.
  • Strong work ethic and organizational skills.
  • Be eligible to work in the United States with a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Interest in NEWS (including Weather) and SPORTS.

Responsibilities

  • Step into the shoes of a producer, MMJ, meteorologist, or media sales executive and handle real-world assignments.
  • Create content that lives beyond the TV screen, including social media, streaming apps, and web stories.
  • Work side-by-side with seasoned veterans to gain insights.
  • Dedicate 25 hours per week for 10 weeks to mastering your specialty and building a professional-grade portfolio.
