About The Position

The Training Officer Supervisor is responsible for planning, directing, implementing, and overseeing all training programs for facility personnel in accordance with National Detention Standards (NDS) 2025, contractual requirements, and Acuity International policies. This position provides direct supervisory oversight of the Training Department and assigned Training Officers, ensuring all staff receive required pre-service, in-service, specialty, and refresher training necessary to maintain compliance, safety, security, detainee rights, and operational readiness. The Training Officer Supervisor serves as the Authoritative Training Official for the facility and is responsible for validating training compliance during inspections, audits, and accreditation reviews. All services shall be provided in accordance with established standards, principles and ethics of the profession, applicable professional specialty organizations, and the high-quality standard for which Acuity International is recognized. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or related field.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of progressive experience in training and instructional leadership, preferably in detention, corrections, law enforcement, or similar regulated environments.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising training staff or instructional teams.
  • Strong working knowledge of National Detention Standards and federal compliance requirements.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain necessary clearances and credentials required for access to detention facilities.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain favorable background investigations.
  • Meet the requirements of the contract for all immunizations.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, resided in the U.S. for 3 years in the past 5 years.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must complete all required training.
  • Ability to adapt to sudden changes and flexibility in work requirements to include potential shift changes based on operational needs and/or command priorities.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified instructor credentials (CPR/AED, defensive tactics, firearms, or equivalent) preferred.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish or other relevant languages) preferred.
  • CPR/First Aid Instructor certification.
  • Has undergone a federal investigation at the level of Tier 2 or higher; has been granted favorable suitability/eligibility and has not had a break in service for more than 24 months.
  • Detention center experience.
  • Ability to travel.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct supervision, guidance, and performance oversight of Training Officers and other assigned instructional staff.
  • Assign, coordinate, and monitor Training Officer workloads, schedules, and instructional delivery.
  • Review and approve lesson plans, curricula updates, and instructional methodologies.
  • Ensure Training Officers maintain current instructor certifications and qualifications.
  • Conduct periodic performance evaluations, coaching, and corrective actions in coordination with facility leadership and Human Resources.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the Training Department and facility department heads to ensure training supports operational needs and compliance requirements.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously update a comprehensive facility training program in compliance with NDS 2025, PWS requirements, and Acuity policies.
  • Ensure all required training categories are delivered, including but not limited to: Pre-service and annual refresher training, Detainee rights and responsibilities, Use of force and defensive tactics, Emergency preparedness and response, Cultural competency and trauma-informed care, PREA, sexual abuse prevention, and reporting, Medical response coordination, CPR/AED, and first aid.
  • Ensure training delivery meets required hours, frequency, documentation, and modality standards.
  • Supervise the day‑to‑day operations of the Training Department.
  • Ensure adequate staffing coverage for onboarding, annual training cycles, and emergent training needs.
  • Maintain training schedules aligned with operational staffing requirements and shift coverage.
  • Manage training equipment, classrooms, supplies, and instructional resources.
  • Ensure accurate, complete, and auditable training records are maintained for all personnel.
  • Oversee training documentation systems to ensure compliance with inspection and audit expectations.
  • Prepare and present training files, logs, rosters, certificates, and supporting documentation during: Client Inspections, Contract oversight reviews, Internal audits and accreditation processes.
  • Immediately address training deficiencies identified during audits or inspections.
  • Assess training effectiveness through testing, observation, feedback, and performance trends.
  • Analyze incident data, grievances, and corrective actions to identify training gaps.
  • Recommend curriculum enhancements and targeted remedial training.
  • Ensure Training Officers apply consistent instructional standards and adult learning principles.
  • Collaborate with the Program Manager, Security, Medical, Mental Health, and Administrative leadership to identify training needs.
  • Coordinate onboarding training for new hires and subcontractors.
  • Support facility emergency exercises, tabletop drills, and after-action reviews.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for training compliance during client engagements.
