About The Position

The Dallas Children's Advocacy Center is seeking an experienced Training and Community Outreach Specialist for the Education Department. This role provides face-to-face delivery of adult-education, child, and teen education programs, helps manage the online learning management system, and executes in-house training events. The Dallas Children's Advocacy Center's mission is to improve the lives of abused children in Dallas County and to provide national leadership on child abuse issues. DCAC is a non-profit organization and the only agency of its kind in Dallas County, working in agreement with public and private agencies to investigate, prosecute, and provide healing services for child abuse cases in Dallas County. They reduce the victimization of the child, remove barriers to investigation and treatment, and enhance criminal prosecution with their distinctive multidisciplinary and united approach to these complex and severe cases, all at no cost to their clients. Each year, DCAC serves over 13,000 children and their non-offending family members. They are a national and international leader in the Children's Advocacy Center movement, recognized for their expertise in the identification, investigation, and prosecution of child abuse cases; cutting edge clinical services and programs for the victims and their non-offending family members; and their community and professional training programs.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in psychology or social work, or similar field from an accredited university.
• At least 3-4 years in the child abuse and neglect field.
• At least 1-2 years presenting to the public.
• Valid and clear driver's license.
• Knowledge of child development and family dynamics.
• Knowledge of sexual abuse dynamics as it relates to victims and perpetrators.
• Excellent presentation and communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Knowledge of learning management systems.
• Ability to maintain client confidentiality.
• Ability to work evenings, any night of the week, as well as occasional Saturday morning/afternoon and Sunday morning/afternoon.
• Knowledge of intermediate level proficiency with MS Windows, Word, and Excel.
• Demonstrated ability to work with all levels of employees, board members, partners, and community.

Nice To Haves

• Child Safety Matters Facilitator Certification, or the ability to obtain certification within the first 90 days of employment.

Responsibilities

• Speaks publicly about DCAC and child abuse issues with specific area of focus such as parent/community education including topic areas: DCAC 101, Keeping Children Safe from Harm, Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse and Best Practices for Responding to Child Abuse on Your Campus, Internet Safety, Human Trafficking, Child Safety Matters, Teen Safety Matters).
• Builds relationships with child-serving organizations such as faith communities, local school districts, institutions of higher education, child-care centers, youth development agencies and other children’s advocacy centers and provides service that utilize DCAC training material.
• Develops new customer at least two (2) outreach contacts, conduct presentations, review leads, and deliver curricula proposals annually.
• Regularly attend multi-disciplinary team staffing and foster relationships with partner agencies.
• Markets and promotes DCAC education offerings, events and/or provide tours on a consistent basis to school districts, child serving agencies, and professionals, law enforcement, CAC’s, medical professionals, and mental health professionals.
• Maintains records of account activity and education event calendar.
• Monitors the inventory of Education materials and reorder as needed.
• Serves as a point of contact to connect potential donors, volunteers, and advocates to appropriate DCAC staff members.
• Available to conduct media interviews with limited advanced notice of the interview.
• Maintains Education email box and responds to emails in timely fashion with accurate information.
• Markets and promotes DCAC Lecture Series with email blasts, during presentations, and exhibiting at Conferences.
• Respond to emails and answer questions related to the series in a timely manner.
• Serves has host for all agencies, partners and staff attending DCAC Lecture Series.
• Ensures attendees have resources and necessary accommodations during training.
• Provides beverages, snacks and meals to all attendees.
• Ensure the space is clean and comfortable for attendees.
• Researches new topics and speakers for DCAC Lecture Series keeping in mind the need for diversity in topic and speaker.
• Works with customers to assist with LMS (learning management system) account set up, troubleshoot issues and compile reports for online learning management system users.
• Ensures PowerPoint presentations are current with child abuse statistics, trends, and any new legislation.
• Reviews presentations and updates monthly, according to new updates in the law and any new trends, i.e.: Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse, REPORT, Human Trafficking, Keeping Kids Safe in the Real and Virtual World, and Internet Safety.
• Researches child abuse topics, attends trainings related to child abuse to ensure content in presentation is relevant, current, and accurate.
• Assists with agency-wide events such as ART, Trunk or Treat, Holiday of Hope by volunteering at the events, and based on what role the development team assigns them to at the event.
• Provides support to all Education projects and events by being present at the training event, checking in attendees, etc.
• Attends and participates in monthly staff meetings.
• Attends and participates in supervision meetings.
• Attends and participates or volunteers at the Crimes Against Children Conference.
• Completes position-based curriculum in a timely manner.
• Completes agency-related compliance trainings in a timely manner.
• Other duties as assigned.
