Trainee Automotive Key Technician
About The Position
Dent Wizard is seeking a mechanically and electronically inclined, independent, and motivated Trainee Automotive Key Technician to produce duplicate keys and transponders for vehicles along an assigned route serving dealers and other customers. The role involves working with high-security keys and complex transponder systems for cars and trucks. Candidates may have prior key technician experience or complete the company’s training course. The technician maintains equipment and inventory, submits invoices and work orders, and builds positive, productive customer relationships. The position offers paid training, work with seasoned key technicians, independence in managing the workday, and potential advancement to higher technician levels or management. Work is performed outdoors in varying weather conditions. The posting lists a base rate of $24 per hour with the ability to earn $3–$5 for commission, and separately states expected starting compensation of $23–$27 per hour. Compensation depends on qualifications, experience, and geographic location; the total package may also include commission, bonus, or profit sharing.
Requirements
- Strong mechanical and electronic skills.
- Sales and customer service experience.
- Strong work ethic and self-motivation.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to work outside in all kinds of weather.
- Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
Nice To Haves
- Knowledge of automotive electrical systems, key duplication, and transponder programming is preferred.
- Prior experience as a Key Technician; candidates without experience may complete the training course.
