Trained Medication Assistant
About The Position
The Trained Medication Assistant (T.M.A.) administers prescribed medications and limited topical treatments to residents under the direct supervision of a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse, in accordance with state and federal regulations. The T.M.A. also performs routine resident-care duties delegated by a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse to meet residents’ physical and psychosocial needs. The role maintains required medication and treatment administration documentation and reports observed changes in residents. Services must comply with facility policies and procedures and applicable state and federal regulations. Mary Marshall Assisted Living provides compassionate care to older adults with intellectual disabilities or mental illness. The community is located in Arlington, Virginia, and describes itself as a close-knit, team-oriented workplace that supports employees and offers a comprehensive benefits package. The position is scheduled from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Pay is $19.60–$21.85 per hour, based on previous experience.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Registered or certified as a nursing assistant.
- Completion of a state-approved medication-administration training program and receipt of a certificate.
- Effective communication with staff, families, and outside agencies.
Responsibilities
- Administer medications and treatments as delegated by a licensed nurse.
- Follow shift routines and facility policies and procedures for measuring vital signs and weights and administering medications and treatments.
- Follow facility medication protocols.
- Obtain a report and full information about residents’ conditions and new orders.
- Perform routine resident-care duties delegated by a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse to meet residents’ physical and psychosocial needs.
- Maintain required documentation for medication and treatment administration.
- Report observed changes in residents.
