About The Position

We’koqma’q First Nation is seeking three motivated youth to join the Skye River Trail Youth Trail Crew Program. This paid summer opportunity combines meaningful employment with structured training in trail stewardship, environmental responsibility, teamwork, and hands-on skill development.

Requirements

  • Must be youth aged 15–30 and eligible for summer employment funding programs
  • Reliable and willing to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Must follow safety procedures and staff direction

Nice To Haves

  • Interest in nature, trails, environmental work, or community service is an asset
  • Preference will be given to We'koqma'q community members

Responsibilities

  • Trail maintenance and upkeep
  • Vegetation management and clearing debris
  • Basic surface repairs and trail feature maintenance
  • Erosion control and environmental stewardship projects
  • Accessibility improvements and pathway clearing
  • Assisting with educational or cultural trail activities
  • Safe use of tools and equipment
  • Supporting team projects and daily work plans
  • Developing workplace readiness skills such as punctuality, teamwork, communication, and accountability
  • Respecting land-based values and Indigenous stewardship principles
