About The Position

As a Mountain Bike Trail Hand Crew Member, you will play a vital role in maintaining and improving mountain biking trails. Your primary responsibilities will include performing trail construction tasks as well as maintaining existing trails. Trail Hand Crew ensures trails are safe and enjoyable for riders. You will work as part of a team, collaborating with other crew members and supervisors to meet established goals and maintain the highest standards of trail quality.

Requirements

  • Physical fitness and ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy objects, using hand tools, and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Knowledge of mountain biking and trail user expectations.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions, work independently, and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (if required for transportation to work sites).

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in trail maintenance, construction, or related outdoor work is preferred but not required.
  • A willingness to learn and develop skills on the job is essential.
  • Familiarity with trail building techniques and sustainable trail design principles is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance tasks to ensure trail safety and sustainability. This includes clearing debris, pruning vegetation, repairing erosion, and addressing drainage issues.
  • Assist in the construction of new trails and trail features, such as berms, jumps, bridges, and technical sections. Follow established plans and guidelines while adhering to sustainable trail building practices.
  • Properly operate and maintain tools and equipment used for trail maintenance and construction. This may include hand tools, power tools, chainsaws, brush cutters, and compactors. Report any equipment issues or malfunctions promptly.
  • Maintain a strong focus on safety during all trail work activities. Identify and address potential hazards on the trails, including loose rocks, exposed roots, and dangerous obstacles. Adhere to safety protocols and use personal protective equipment as required.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, including daily activity logs, materials used, and hours worked. Report any trail damage, safety concerns, or incidents to the supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Promote environmentally responsible trail practices, including minimizing erosion, protecting sensitive habitats, and respecting wildlife and vegetation. Participate in efforts to mitigate trail-related impacts on the environment.
