About The Position

Skye River Trail is seeking enthusiastic applicants to interpret the history of the Mi'kmaq for visitors during the 2026 tourist season. As part of the Skye River Trail team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional visitor experiences that are both enlightening and enriching on the front lines of our beautiful trail. You will deliver interpretive programs to the public and contribute to the authentic presentation of Mi'kmaq culture. Your dramatic flair and excellent communication skills will engage visitors with the history, cultural beliefs, and traditions of the Mi'kmaq. Your interpretation and program delivery will ensure visitors’ experiences at the site are both educational and entertaining. This role is ideal for individuals who love talking to people, telling stories, and sharing their cultural heritage.

Requirements

  • Ability to engage and entertain diverse audiences
  • Willingness to learn and participate in training programs
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Flexibility to work weekends and holidays as required
  • Knowledge of Mi'kmaq culture
  • Ability to work well with team members and willingness to learn new skills

  • Previous experience in a similar role is an asset but not required

Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging programming and tours to visitors of all ages and abilities
  • Act as a tour guide, delivering guided tours
  • Provide exceptional customer service to all visitors to the trail
  • Deliver information and programs in an accurate and authentic way, as per training
  • Maintain the cleanliness of public display areas
  • Assist with maintenance of artifacts and/or program supplies
  • Participate and engage in learning and training with our elders and mentors
  • Assist in the development of new interpretive programs and materials
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure a cohesive visitor experience
  • Handle visitor inquiries and provide information about the trail and its features
  • Promote the trail and its programs through social media and other channels
  • Guide forest clean-up and keep the trail clean
  • Mentor with knowledge keepers and elders, sharing stories and history
  • Engage in gardening, harvesting, and help with maintenance
  • Assist with organizing and executing events
  • Learn and participate in arts and crafts, particularly in the art of storytelling
  • Other related duties as required
