About The Position

The Tourism Supervisor at Skye River Trail will play a pivotal role in coordinating and supervising all activities related to the operation of the trail, while also ensuring that it offers an authentic Mi’kmaw cultural tourism experience. This role involves leading a team responsible for trail maintenance, managing visitor services, and promoting cultural education initiatives. Additionally, the Tourism Supervisor will actively seek funding opportunities to support operational expenses and enhance the trail’s offerings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Tourism Management, Hospitality, Cultural Studies, or a related field
  • Experience in tourism management, particularly cultural or Indigenous tourism
  • Strong knowledge of Mi’kmaw culture, history, and traditions, with collaborative work in Indigenous communities
  • Proven leadership skills, motivating diverse teams of staff and volunteers
  • Effective communication with visitors, stakeholders, and funding partners
  • Financial management experience, including budgeting, grant writing, and revenue generation
  • Valid driver’s license and occasional travel for meetings and events
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Flexibility to work weekends and holidays as required
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills
  • Passion for cultural preservation and education

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the trail.
  • Supervise and manage staff, including guides, interpreters, and maintenance personnel.
  • Schedule staff shifts and maintain accurate time sheets.
  • Assist in developing training programs to ensure high-quality cultural tourism experiences.
  • Collaborate with Mi’kmaw communities to ensure authentic cultural representation.
  • Enhance cultural offerings by working with local artists and artisans.
  • Continuously improve the visitor experience based on feedback.
  • Ensure safety compliance for both visitors and staff.
  • Assist in promoting the Skye River Trail through strategic marketing initiatives.
  • Seek and secure funding opportunities to support operational expenses and enhance trail offerings.
  • Manage visitor services to ensure exceptional customer service.
  • Coordinate and oversee events and activities on the trail.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports related to trail operations.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive work environment for all team members.
  • Address visitor inquiries and resolve any issues that arise.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of programs and initiatives.
  • Ensure the trail and its facilities are well-maintained and presentable.
  • Engage with local communities and stakeholders to build strong relationships.
