About The Position

The City of Oxnard’s Public Works Department, Traffic Engineering Division, is seeking a Traffic Signal Repairer who is experienced in the maintenance and repair of traffic signal equipment and systems. This role involves installing, inspecting, testing, and repairing electrical and electronic signal control equipment to ensure correct timing and operations. It also includes installing, replacing, and repairing electrical control devices, damaged poles, and maintaining traffic signals. The position requires performing preventive maintenance on traffic signal control equipment and related systems, including painting and cleaning, as well as installing and modifying pull boxes and conduits, and replacing lamps in traffic signal heads and streetlights. The classification is distinguished from the Maintenance Technician, Senior by its performance of both skilled maintenance and skilled repair work, and troubleshooting of equipment issues.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED
Four (4) years of experience related to traffic signal repair or other electrical repair work
A valid California Class C Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record may be required for some positions
Must be able to communicate in English effectively, both orally and in writing
Proficient and comfortable with computer use to perform functions associated with ongoing work
Regular and reliable attendance
Effective communication skills
Development of effective working relationships
Must be able to participate in the City's direct deposit plan
Must be able to serve as disaster service workers subject to such disaster service activities as may be assigned
Must provide proof of citizenship or documentation of legal right to work in the United States in compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, as amended

Nice To Haves

Possession of a valid International Municipal Signal Association (I.M.S.A.) level I or II certification

Responsibilities

Install, inspect, test, and repair electrical and electronic signal control equipment to ensure correct timing and operations; make adjustments and repairs as needed
Install, replace, and repair electrical control devices and damaged poles
Maintain and repair traffic signals
Perform preventive maintenance on traffic signal control equipment and related systems, including painting and cleaning of equipment
Install and modify pull boxes and conduits
Replace lamps in traffic signal heads and streetlights
Repair damaged and malfunctioning signal and safety lighting equipment
Plans, prioritizes and schedules activities to complete repairs and maintenance work in an efficient and timely manner
Selects proper tools and equipment for assignment
Monitors work site safety
Performs work following established safety policies and procedures and applicable codes and regulations
Performs maintenance inspections
Troubleshoots equipment, maintenance and/or system issues
Identifies repair needs
Reviews repair versus replacement costs and makes recommendations
Performs required repairs or works with outside contractors for project completion
Organizes and maintains assigned equipment and tools
Inspects, cleans and performs preventative maintenance to ensure operability and reliability of equipment and tools
Reviews equipment and materials required for daily maintenance and work projects
Initiates requests for or purchases approved materials and supplies
Prepares and/or maintains activity records, logs, work orders, material requests, reports and/or technical documentation for equipment or building systems
Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned
