About The Position

The Ohio Department of Public Safety - Ohio Traffic Safety Office is seeking a Traffic Safety Program Specialist. This role involves researching and analyzing information for assigned program areas, providing technical advice and recommendations, responding to complex inquiries, formulating and implementing program policies, and responding to programmatic issues. Requirements

  • Option 1: 36 mos. trg. or 36 mos. exp. in business administration, management science or public administration.
  • Option 2: Completion of undergraduate core program in business administration, management science or public administration; AND 12 mos. trg. or 12 mos. exp. in supervisory, administrative &/or managerial position which involved limited research & public contact.
  • Option 3: Completion of undergraduate core program in academic field commensurate with program area to be assigned per approved Position Description on file - traffic safety, city or regional planning, sociology, vehicle/mobility safety management or engineering, public health programming or related field; AND 12 mos. trg. or 12 mos. exp. in supervisory, administrative, managerial &/or staff position which involved limited research & public contact.

Responsibilities

  • Research & analyze information for assigned program areas such as crash problem identification, best practices on programming used in other states, & additional countermeasures that can be used by OTSO; Provide technical advice & recommendations to administrators regarding program implementation.
  • Research & respond to complex or confidential inquiries received from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), other states &/or sub-recipients pertaining to traffic safety program areas.
  • Formulate & implement program policies, operational procedures, & best practices; Interpret federal, state & local laws to ensure compliance; Communicate policy updates to all stakeholders; Provide technical advice to aid administrator in decision making.
  • Respond to programmatic issues or needs of staff &/or external customers; Transmit decisions & directives regarding program rules & operating procedures.
