About The Position

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Senior Traffic Safety Engineer to join our New Jersey Safety Team based out of Ewing Township, NJ. Your role involves reviewing plans, drawings, and other recommendations to ensure solutions meet agency guidelines for complete streets and safe systems guidelines. You will assist with engineering investigations and planning work with a well-defined scope, supporting the development of planned/unplanned events, traffic data, road geometrics, construction plans, and other inputs to understand and plan for traffic impacts and mitigation strategies. The role includes assisting in the planning, design, and production of engineering drawings and maps, carrying out specific assignments in preparing and assembling specifications, and preparing straightforward reports or sections of more complex reports under review. You will research the feasibility of alternative design approaches, site conditions, and regulatory agency specifications. Participation in quality control checks, maintaining quality standards, checking computations, and reviewing designs and drawings performed by others is expected. You will also coordinate with other disciplines as required and perform field observations of construction where appropriate. Other duties as assigned by the supervisor may be required.

Requirements

  • B.S. or M.S. in Engineering.
  • Six to ten years of experience since Bachelor's degree.
  • Good technical writing, computer, and communications skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Having knowledge of and interaction with various states' Intersection Control Evaluation tools is a preference.
  • P.E. is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews plans, drawings, and other recommendations to ensure solutions meet agency guidelines for complete streets and safe systems guidelines.
  • Assists with engineering investigations and planning work which has a well-defined scope.
  • Support the development of planned/unplanned events, traffic data, road geometrics, construction plans, and other inputs to understand and plan for traffic impacts and mitigation strategies.
  • Assists in the planning, design, and production of engineering drawings and maps.
  • Carries out specific assignments in preparing and assembling specifications.
  • Outlines and prepares relatively straightforward reports of sections of more complex reports, working under the periodic review of a more experienced professional.
  • Researches feasibility of alternative design approaches, site conditions, and regulatory agency specifications.
  • Participates in quality control checks, maintaining quality standards in all work produced, checking computations, and/or reviewing designs and drawings performed by others.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines as required.
  • Performs field observations of construction where appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as the supervisor may from time to time deem necessary.
