About The Position

A Traffic Safety Manager plans, organizes and coordinates traffic safety programs for Baltimore City. Work of this class involves supervising traffic safety personnel. Incumbents receive general supervision from an administrative superior. Employees in this class are subject to attendance at evenings or weekend meetings and 24-hour call back for emergencies. Work is usually performed in an office where there are no uncomfortable working conditions; however, incumbents are required to be present at various locations where there may be exposure to inclement weather, noise and traffic. Work requires minimal physical exertion.

Requirements

  • Have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Five years of experience in developing and implementing a traffic safety program for a large municipality, including two years of such supervisory responsibilities as disciplining, evaluating the performance of and recommending the hiring, firing, and promoting of others.
  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of traffic safety program administration.
  • Knowledge of state traffic safety laws, rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge and understanding of transportation service and safety.
  • Knowledge of marketing and public information practices and procedures.
  • Ability to lead others.
  • Ability to develop promotional programs.
  • Ability to write press releases, pamphlets and flyers.
  • Ability to deal effectively with others.
  • Ability to implement legislation, standards, regulations and program policies and procedures.
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to write grants and reports.
  • Supervisory ability.
  • Authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed.
  • Complete a mandatory six-month's probation.
  • Education must be obtained from an accredited institution.
