About The Position

Skilled work in maintenance of grounds and athletic fields which includes maintenance and repair of equipment and structures. This very independent position is responsible for ball field maintenance, striping of playing fields, cutting grass, maintaining irrigations systems, sodding, trimming, edging, and applying fertilizer and pesticides on and around facility grounds and athletic fields.

Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent.
2- years’ experience in turf maintenance (preferred), construction and operation of heavy equipment, construction and maintenance or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License.
Flagler County is a drug free workplace, some positions may require a pre-employment drug screen.
Work Outside for long periods of time and in all kinds of weather, performing tasks that require physical strength and endurance.
Understand and follow instructions and specifications.
Adjust to doing the same kind of work all day long or performing a variety of different tasks on the same, depending on daily needs.
Work skillfully with your hands to do a variety of tasks.
Able to use arithmetic to measure, compute amount of materials to use, and to inspect product to be sure it confirms to requirements.
Ability to understand and communicate written instructions.
Skill in the use and care of tools, equipment and materials of the trades to which assigned.
Physical Demand: Moderate 50 lbs. maximum lifting.
Sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, lifting and moving of approximately 50 lbs.
Physical strength and ability to perform manual labor under adverse weather conditions.
Expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken word or perceiving sound by ear.
Good eye sight for production or safety of self and others.

Responsibilities

Performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the area of grounds and athletic field maintenance.
Cuts grass and trims weeds using hand mower or power driven lawn mower, weed trimmer and brush cutter.
Plants grass, trees, shrubs, or flowers according to instructions and planned design of landscaped area, using hand tools.
Trims hedges and prunes trees using hand and power tools.
Applies mulch to designated areas, pulls weeds around bushes, trees and flower beds.
Performs repairs and maintenance to buildings and ground which may include painting of buildings, benches and tables; repairs to walkways and parking areas; emptying of trash cans; and pressure washing.
Performs preventative maintenance of facilities and grounds.
Performs light maintenance on all equipment.
Maintains preventative maintenance records.
Responsible to self-initiate activities consistent with Flagler County General Services’ department goals and objectives.
Performs related work as required.
