About The Position

The Tractor Tech 2 tests, services, and repairs tractors and related mechanical components at the U.S. Xpress Ellenwood terminal. The role performs diagnostics, repairs, inspections, and preventive maintenance, along with documenting work and maintaining the shop area. The position is onsite and scheduled Monday through Friday, 3:30 p.m. to midnight. The compensation range is $27.70–$33.86.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 2 years of tractor experience; a technical diploma from an accredited Diesel Technology Program may substitute for 1 year of the required experience.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to read and write.
• Must provide hand tools adequate to perform the job functions.
• Ability to meet the listed physical requirements, with reasonable accommodation where applicable.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair most transmission, engine, electrical, suspension, driveline, HVAC, brake, and air-system issues, requesting assistance from a Tech III when needed.
• Repair or replace bolt-on body parts, including hoods and cab extenders.
• Perform DOT inspections according to U.S. Xpress guidelines.
• Perform open-seat inspections to prepare tractors for the next driver.
• Perform 90-day lease-operator inspections.
• Complete DOT forms and other documentation accurately and promptly.
• Use diagnostic equipment and available resources.
• Drive trucks into and out of the shop before and after repairs.
• Clean and maintain the work area daily.
• Maintain productivity and work within or close to most SRT times.
• Perform basic or minor repairs and inspections on brakes, tires, wiring, and related components.
• Perform basic and routine preventive maintenance on tractors and trailers.
• Check vehicle fluids, including transmission fluid, oil, windshield-washer fluid, and antifreeze.
• Perform vehicle preventive maintenance according to U.S. Xpress guidelines.
• Change vehicle tires and grease mechanical parts.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
