About The Position

The Tortilleria Clerk provides customer service while operating tortilla-making equipment and maintaining a clean, organized work area. The role includes taking customer orders, preparing fresh tortillas and related products, packaging orders, processing transactions, and ensuring product quality and freshness. The position is located in Edinburg, Texas, in the Tortillas and Pastries department. Management may assign additional tasks to support store operations. Employees will receive proper training and protective equipment for assigned tasks requiring special handling.

Requirements

At least 1 year of experience in a customer service role; food service or retail experience is preferred.
Experience handling cash and processing transactions.
Experience with food preparation and handling; experience with tortillas or related products is preferred.
Excellent customer service skills and a friendly, approachable demeanor.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Basic math skills and ability to handle cash transactions accurately.
Knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices.
Ability to work as part of a team and contribute to a positive work environment.
Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 pounds.
Food Handlers Certification is required.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.
Food service or retail customer service experience preferred.
Experience preparing or handling tortillas or related products preferred.

Responsibilities

Operate dough mixers, presses, and ovens, ensuring proper operation and following safety procedures.
Prepare fresh tortillas of various sizes and types according to customer orders and established recipes.
Package tortillas and related products, such as tostadas and chips, with accurate weights, labels, and presentation.
Provide prompt, friendly customer service by taking orders, answering product questions, and addressing customer concerns.
Clean and organize the work area, including cleaning equipment, sanitizing surfaces, and stocking supplies.
Monitor inventory of ingredients and packaging materials and report shortages or discrepancies to management.
Process cash register transactions and payments accurately and efficiently.
Ensure product quality and freshness while following food safety standards and company guidelines.
Assist with stocking shelves, rotating stock, receiving deliveries, and other tasks as needed.
Follow company policies and procedures related to safety, sanitation, and customer service.
