About The Position

The Tool and Die Journeyman will utilize their skills and knowledge to build, maintain, troubleshoot, and improve tooling and procedures. This role involves operating all equipment, tools, and gauges in the tool room safely and efficiently, planning machining and bench procedures, and performing difficult machining operations. The position requires knowledge of different metals and materials, as well as the ability to program CNC equipment, weld, and heat treat metals. The Journeyman will also be responsible for documenting findings, recording corrections, and providing detailed drawings for engineering. Reading and understanding customer part prints/blueprints to build tooling with proper dimensions, clearances, and tolerances is essential. Additionally, the role involves operating forklifts, computers, and editing CNC programs.

Requirements

  • Completed a state journeyman tool & die apprenticeship or possess 5+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Ability to operate all equipment, tools, and gauges in the tool room safely and efficiently.
  • Ability to perform difficult machining operations requiring complicated setups.
  • Knowledge of the properties and uses of different metals and materials.
  • Ability to prioritize jobs and work independently and expeditiously.
  • Ability to document all findings and record all corrections or improvements.
  • Ability to provide detailed drawings and sketches of alterations or modifications for engineering documentation.
  • Ability to read and understand customer part prints/blueprints and build tooling with proper dimensions, clearances & tolerances, fasteners, strippers, fool proofing, etc.
  • Ability to program CNC equipment.
  • Ability to weld different types of metals.
  • Ability to heat treat (harden, anneal, and normalize) different types of metals.
  • Ability to operate forklifts, computers, and edit CNC programs.

Responsibilities

  • Build, maintain, troubleshoot, and improve tooling and procedures.
  • Operate all equipment, tools, and gauges in the tool room safely and efficiently.
  • Layout work and plan machining and bench procedures.
  • Perform difficult machining operations requiring complicated setups that involve improvising tooling and machines for adaptation beyond the normal ranges and capacities of available equipment.
  • Clean and perform all daily and periodic maintenance necessary for this equipment.
  • Know the properties and uses of different metals and materials, and know the feeds, speeds, coolant/lubricant, and compatible cutting tool material to utilize or apply.
  • Prioritize jobs and work independently and expeditiously until the job is completed.
  • Assume a leadership role in an orderly investigation team.
  • Properly document all findings and record all corrections or improvements.
  • Provide detailed drawings and sketches of alterations or modifications for engineering documentation.
