About The Position

The 2nd Shift Tool and Die Journeyman will utilize their skills and knowledge to build, maintain, troubleshoot, and improve tooling and procedures. This role involves operating all equipment, tools, and gauges in the tool room safely and efficiently, planning machining and bench procedures, and performing difficult machining operations that may require improvising tooling and machines. The position also includes performing daily and periodic maintenance on equipment, understanding metal properties and machining parameters, prioritizing jobs, and working independently. The Journeyman will document findings, record corrections, provide detailed drawings for engineering, and read/understand customer part prints to build tooling with proper dimensions, clearances, and tolerances. Responsibilities also include programming CNC equipment, welding, heat treating metals, operating forklifts, using computers, and editing CNC programs.

Requirements

  • Completed a state journeyman tool & die apprenticeship or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Build, maintain, troubleshoot, and improve tooling and procedures.
  • Operate all equipment, tools, and gauges in the tool room safely and efficiently.
  • Layout work and plan machining and bench procedures.
  • Perform difficult machining operations requiring complicated setups, improvising tooling and machines for adaptation beyond normal ranges and capacities.
  • Clean and perform daily and periodic maintenance on equipment.
  • Understand the properties and uses of different metals and materials, and know the appropriate feeds, speeds, coolant/lubricant, and cutting tool material.
  • Prioritize jobs and work independently and expeditiously until job is completed.
  • Assume a leadership role in an orderly investigation team.
  • Document all findings and record all corrections or improvements.
  • Provide detailed drawings and sketches of alterations or modifications for engineering documentation.
  • Read and understand customer part prints/blue prints and build tooling with proper dimensions, clearances & tolerances, fasteners, strippers, and fool proofing.
  • Program CNC equipment.
  • Weld different types of metals.
  • Heat treat (harden, anneal, and normalize) different types of metals.
  • Operate forklifts, computers, and edit CNC programs.
