About The Position

The State of Connecticut, Connecticut Technical Education and Career System (CTECS) is recruiting a THS Science Instructor (Chemistry) to join their team at Ella T. Grasso Technical High School located in Groton, CT. This role is for an experienced science professional/educator passionate about educating students and transforming their lives. CTECS prepares trade-bound students to meet the skilled workforce needs in Connecticut through exemplary trade and academic programming.

Requirements

• Possess an active State of Connecticut teaching certificate in one of the following areas: 031 Chemistry, 4–12.
• Qualify for a Durational Shortage Area Permit (DSAP).
• Eligible for a State of Connecticut teaching certificate in subject area (includes ARC candidates).
• Possess at time of appointment a valid certificate issued by the Connecticut State Board of Education in accordance with the Certification Regulations Concerning State Educator Certificates, Permits and Authorizations, with a secondary school endorsement.

• Professional experiences related to the field of teaching Science.
• Experience with varied assessments to inform instruction and promote learning.
• Experience with fostering and facilitating learning, classroom management, and behavior intervention plans.

• Experience utilizing computer software such as Microsoft Office and Google Products.

Responsibilities

• Engage in intentional planning to prepare lesson plans that achieve clear objectives, use appropriate techniques, and serve the needs of all learners in the classroom through differentiation.
• Understand the varied needs of each student.
• Work collaboratively with guidance personnel and other support service educators to assist students with special programming; ensure IEP and 504 accommodations/modifications are implemented.
• Set instructional goals and outcomes.
• Knowledge and use of varied instructional practices and resources.
• Effectively design instructional learning opportunities.
• Effectively design assessments.
• Develop mutual respect and rapport with students.

• Maintain accurate records.
• Maintain effective and on-going communication with students and their families.
• Participate in building and district level professional development and collaboration. This will include working with various committees and departments to facilitate educating students.

• Demonstrate professionalism; adhere to the Connecticut Code of Professional Responsibility.
• Implement the CTECS Board of Education and administrative policies, rules, regulations, and directives.
• Maintain a positive school community image that encourages ethical student behavior.
• Maintain confidentiality concerning personnel, student, and operational concerns of the district.
• Report all cases of suspected child abuse to appropriate school personnel and authorities.
