About The Position

The Connecticut Technical Education and Career System (CTECS) is hiring for a Hairdressing Instructor (THS Instructor) to join their team in Groton. This role is responsible for educating students in all aspects of the Cosmetology curriculum, which includes both theoretical and hands-on training. The instructor will plan and deliver information, assess student competency using various methods including educational technology, and possess the technical skills to perform Cosmetology tasks. The position involves instructing students individually and in groups, establishing and enforcing rules for behavior, observing and evaluating student performance, and preparing course outlines according to curriculum guidelines and Department of Public Health regulations for salon settings. A significant portion of the 11th and 12th grade curriculum involves on-campus production in the salon, where the instructor will assist students in providing beauty services. The role also includes participating in professional development and collaboration at the building and district levels.

Requirements

• Must hold a 090 certification.
• Must possess a valid certificate issued by the Connecticut State Board of Education in accordance with the Certification Regulations Concerning State Educator Certificates, Permits and Authorizations, with a secondary school endorsement at time of appointment.
• Basic computer skills to access online curriculum/resources and present lessons to students.
• Technical skill and physical ability to complete various Cosmetology tasks.
• Ability to stand and move around for a majority of each shift.
• Ability to instruct students individually and in groups.
• Ability to establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among students.
• Ability to observe and evaluate students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
• Ability to prepare objectives and outlines for courses of study following district curriculum guidelines and Department of Public Health guidelines for salon settings.

Nice To Haves

• Completed VTE 113, VTE 116, and a Special Education course.
• Experience in teaching or substitute teaching.
• Demonstrated methods of delivering lessons, assessing student knowledge, and the use of educational technology.
• Involvement in student/community activities.

Responsibilities

• Work with various committees and departments to facilitate educating students.
