About The Position

Exponent is seeking a Thermal Sciences Associate for its Thermal Sciences Practice in Natick, MA. This role involves working within a multidisciplinary team to apply engineering and scientific principles to real-world problems such as failure analysis, risk mitigation, and product development. The position requires applying mechanical engineering fundamentals to diverse technical challenges, planning and executing experimental test programs, developing and utilizing numerical and analytical models, conducting risk assessments and fieldwork, researching technical literature, preparing client-facing communications, managing projects and teams, and identifying new business opportunities. Continuous professional development through publications, conferences, and licensure is also expected.

Requirements

Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering
Presently legally authorized to work in the United States; No immigration sponsorship or processing.
Practical and theoretical knowledge of combustion, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, thermodynamics, and electrochemistry with a strong interest in energy applications.
Outstanding ability to apply fundamental engineering concepts to new and varied problems within and outside direct areas of specialization.
Hands-on experience designing and executing experimental programs, including experimental design, apparatus construction, instrumentation, data acquisition, and data analysis.
Strong quantitative skills, including mathematical modeling, optimization, and numerical analysis.
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary, collaborative environment.
Self-motivation, intellectual curiosity, and a demonstrated commitment to professional development through peer-reviewed publications, technical conference presentations, professional engineering licensure, or other professional certifications.

Responsibilities

Apply mechanical engineering fundamentals to a broad range of technical problems and applications.
Plan, design, and execute experimental test programs, including the construction of experimental apparatus, instrumentation, data acquisition, and data analysis.
Develop and use numerical and analytical models of physical phenomena.
Conduct risk assessments, fieldwork, and inspections, including data gathering and documentation.
Research published literature and review and synthesize documents, data, and other technical information.
Prepare and communicate proposals, presentations, and technical reports to clients and other technical and non-technical audiences.
Manage projects and multidisciplinary project teams while maintaining quality and efficiency under deadlines.
Demonstrate a commitment to quality management in technical work and project delivery.
Identify opportunities to expand current projects and develop new consulting engagements.
Pursue continued professional development through publications, technical conferences, professional licensure, and certifications.
