Thermal Sciences Associate - Mechanical Engineer (Ph.D.)
About The Position
Exponent is seeking a Thermal Sciences Associate - Mechanical Engineer for its Thermal Sciences Practice in Warrenville, IL. This role involves working as part of a team of Mechanical, Chemical, and Fire Protection Engineers to investigate technical engineering problems. The position requires performing outstanding technical work related to a broad application of mechanical engineering fundamentals, conducting field work including data gathering and documentation, designing and executing customized experimental programs, and reviewing/synthesizing information. Key responsibilities also include communicating findings to project teams and clients, managing multidisciplinary project teams, demonstrating commitment to quality management, identifying opportunities for project expansion, continuing professional development through publication and certifications, and mentoring/collaborating with other staff.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Presently legally authorized to work in the United States. No immigration sponsorship or processing required.
- Strong technical background in thermodynamics, heat transfer, kinetics, heat and mass transfer, mechanical systems, thermal and fluid systems, refrigeration, machine design and materials, fluid mechanics, or combustion
- Experience in the development of experimental design, construction of experimental apparatus, instrumentation, data acquisition and data analysis
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences
- Highly self-motivated as demonstrated through presentation at technical conferences, publication in peer reviewed journals, professional certifications
- Intellectual curiosity with a passion to explore a vast array of problems and applications both within and outside of their area of specialization
- Demonstrated leadership skills and proven ability to work in a multidisciplinary, collaborative environment
